HC Deb 04 November 1968 vol 772 c11W
7 Mr. Brooks

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the latest estimate of the number of coloured persons resident in Great Britain; by what criteria of definition is this calculation made; and what is the latest estimate of the numbers of such persons likely to be resident in this country in 1971 and 1981, respectively.

Mr. Ennals

It is estimated that at mid-1968 there were rather over 1 million persons of New Commonwealth origin resident in this country This figure includes immigrants themselves and estimates of the children born to them here The future size of this population depends on a number of unknown factors including in particular the future rate of entry from the New Commonwealth.
