HC Deb 31 May 1968 vol 765 c292W
Mr. Body

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons between the ages of 17 and 21 years have received and completed a determinate sentence of imprisonment for murder or manslaughter since the passing of the Criminal Justice Act, 1948; and what was the average length of detention in those cases.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

Determinate sentences are not passed for murder. Between 1949 and 1967 118 such persons received determinate sentences for manslaughter in England and Wales; the average period of detention, assuming no remission to be lost, would be 2 years and 4 months.
