§ Mr. Edward ShortThe Fifth Report of the Universities Central Council on Admissions shows that of 101,600 applicants through U-C.C.A. for admission in 1967 to universities in the United Kingdom, 44,526 were accepted. Of the remainder, U.C.C.A. estimates that as many as 20,000 did not have the minimum examination qualification which would have entitled them to be considered for admission. The ultimate number admitted in October, 1967, including those admitted by agreed arrangements outside the U.C.C.A. scheme, was 56,222. A similar analysis for England and Wales only is not available.
