§ Viscount Lambtonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the further deterioration of the health of ex-Squadron Leader Hindle James, and the consequent expenses which his illness has entailed, he will reconsider his decision not to ask the Egyptian Government to pay compensation; and whether he will further bring to the attention of the Egyptian Government, with a view to apology, the increased ill-health of Squadron Leader Hindle James resulting from torture and imprisonment inflicted by the Egyptian authorities.
§ Mr. William RodgersSquadron Leader Hindle James's claim for compensation was received on 27th May and is being examined urgently. It will be presented to the Government of the United Arab Republic as soon as possible. On 29th May the Counsellor of the United Arab Republic Embassy was informed of the claim and of Her Majesty's Government's full support for it. His attention was also drawn to the Squadron-Leader's allegations of ill-treatment and to his poor state of health.
