Mr. Hall-Davis

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity on what grounds her Department refused to approve the payment of a salary increase with effect from 1st January, 1968 to district office clerks employed by the Co-operative Insurance Society Limited, Miller Street, Manchester.

will show in table form the percentage increase in the overall cost-of-living index, the food index, weekly wage rates and hourly wage rates together with increases or otherwise of productivity for the following periods, namely, October 1964 to April 1968, October 1964 to March 1966, April 1966 to April 1968, July 1966 to June 1967, and November 1967 to April 1968.

In accordance with the Government's policy outlined in paragraph 24(i) Cmnd. 3235 "Prices and Incomes Policy after 30th June, 1967", the Society and the union were informed that the proposed increase should be deferred until a date 12 months after the date of the last increase which was operative from 29th May, 1967.
