HL Deb 30 May 1968 vol 292 c1358WA
THE EARL OF MANSFIELD

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will state the number of criminals released, in Scotland, under the new probation arrangements from the commencement of the scheme until the latest convenient date: giving not only the total numbers but the respective numbers of those released who had been found guilty of either crimes of violence or of sexual offences, or both.

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR SCOTLAND (LORD HUGHES)

Of the 453 prisoners and young offenders eligible under the new parole system 16 have been released. Of those 16, six were sentenced for crimes of a violent nature and one for offences involving acts of incest.

House adjourned at two minutes before nine o'clock, for the Whitsun Recess.
