§ 60. Mr. Philip Noel-Bakerasked the Minister of Transport what was the net capital cost of electrifying the railway lines from Euston Station, London, to Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham, leaving out of account the cost of track repairs and improvements which were in any case required; and what were the receipts from the passenger and freight, respectively, as a result of this capital expenditure during the last 12 months before the electrified services began operating and during the 12 months preceding 1st January 1968.
Mr. Bob BrownThe Railways Board tell us that the net cost was about £90 million including electric rolling stock. It is not possible to say what receipts are attributable to the capital expenditure on electrification.
