§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on work done at the Microbiological Research Establishment, Porton, on the recent outbreak of disease in Germany, alleged to have been carried by monkeys; and whether the results were made available to countries such as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
§ Mr. John MorrisThe results have been published in the scientific literature and have been reviewed in a leader in theBritish Medical Journal (30th December, 1967, page 758). Interim reports of progress are sent to 40 laboratories all over the world; nine of these have been supplied with infective material and/or anti-sera: four in the United States of America, and one each in Germany, Panama, South Africa, Uganda and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. A non-infective complement-fixing antigen has been prepared for distribution to World Health Organisation reference laboratories.
