HC Deb 21 May 1968 vol 765 cc54-5W
Mr. W. O. J. Robinson

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will now give further details of the inquiry into the collapse of the flats at Canning Town on 16th May.

Mr. Greenwood

I have today formally appointed this Inquiry. I have been fortunate in securing the services of Sir Alfred Pugsley, Professor of Civil Engineering at Bristol University and of Sir Owen Saunders, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Vice Chancellor of London University to join Mr. Hugh Griffiths, Q.C., who had earlier agreed to act as Chairman. The Inquiry will be opened at Newham Town Hall at 11 a.m. on Thursday, 30th May. Notice of the Inquiry is being published in the Press, including instructions to those who may wish to make representations or be heard at the Inquiry. Copies are available in the Library.

The terms of reference are: To inquire into the circumstances affecting the collapse of flats at Canning Town on 16th May; to ascertain and report the cause of causes; to consider the implications of the findings; and to make recommendations.
