Traffic Wardens

Mr. Edward M. Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many traffic wardens are now employed in Scotland, and what was the comparable figure in the same month in 1967.

At 30th April, 1968, 434; the comparable number for April, 1967 was 245.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the average salaries paid to traffic wardens in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee, respectively.

The basic salaries of traffic wardens vary according to length of service and the nature of the duties on which they are employed but fall within the following limits:

		Range of annual pay (rounded to nearest pound)
Glasgow	…	£718—£843
Edinburgh	…	£759—£837
Aberdeen	…	£763—£815
Dundee	…	£745—£860

An additional increment of 7s per week is payable in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen after five years' service.

The National Joint Industrial Councils for Local Authority Services (Scotland) are now engaged in the negotiation of scales of pay, appropriate to the duties performed, for application throughout Scotland.
