§ Mr. Carlisleasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government (1) what examination has been made by his Department into the various alternative sites to Warrington for the accommodation of overspill population from the Manchester conurbation as proposed at the public inquiry into the Draft Warrington New Town (Designation) Order; and what was the outcome of these examinations;
(2) what consideration was given by his Department to the North-East Lancashire area as an alternative site to Warrington for the accommodation of the overspill population from the Manchester conurbation; and what was the outcome of the examination.
§ Mr. MacCollThe search for suitable sites to accommodate overspill population from the Manchester conurbation has extended over many years. As part of this the proposals for new town develop-34W ment at Warrington and in the Preston/ Leyland/Chorley area were announced together in February, 1965 by my right hon. Friend's predecessor. The decision letter of 11th April makes clear my right hon. Friend's view, having considered the Inspector's report, that other locations would not offer the great advantages of Warrington.
§ Mr. Carlisleasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what representations he received from local authorities in the Manchester conurbation as to the attractions of Warrington as a new town for the Manchester area; and what reply he has sent.
