HC Deb 14 May 1968 vol 764 cc234-5W
Mr. Brian Parkyn

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he is aware of the burden borne by the teaching staff of primary schools in Bedford, due to the high proportion of non-English born pupils; and what steps he proposes to take to help the local education authority by providing additional funds.

Miss Bacon

Yes. I understand that grant has already been paid to the local authority under the provisions of Section 11 of the Local Government Act, 1966, by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department. I am very ready to discuss with the local education authority how I might be able to help in other ways, for example by approving extra school building or increasing the authority's teacher quota.
