HC Deb 14 May 1968 vol 764 cc225-6W
53. Mr. Pavitt

asked the Minister of Health what the average gross annual remuneration of a general practitioner will be after the review body's recommendations have been implemented, the net remuneration; and what percentage of increase this represents over the averages pertaining in 1948.

Mr. K. Robinson

Estimated gross remuneration payable by Executive Councils in 1968–69 after implementation of the Review Body's latest recommendations would if divided by the estimated total of doctors give a quotient of the order of £5,800. On the basis of the Review Body's assumptions about practice expenses the net element of this would be some £3,800. A precisely comparable figure for the first full year of the National Health Service 1949–50 is not available, but I estimate that the increase is around 120 per cent.
