Mr. Hooleyasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs if he will recommend the appointment of a Royal Commission to study the future constitutional development of Great Britain's remaining dependent territories, with particular regard to their geographical position and the ethnic origins of their population.
§ Mr. George ThomsonNo. I do not consider that a Royal Commission is the appropriate method of studying the future constitutional development of dependent territories. As has always been done in the past, our policy is to work out arrangements suitable for the special needs of each territory in consultation with the Governments of and interested parties in the territories themselves.
