Her Majesty's Government made their position on the subject of the Israel Independence Day celebrations in Jerusalem last week, quite clear when they voted for the Security Council resolutions of 27th April and 2nd May on the Jerusalem Parade. My right hon. and noble Friend, Lord Caradon, explained to the Council Her Majesty's Government's concern that nothing should be done from any quarter which might increase tension or lessen the chances of achieving a peaceful settlement in the Middle East.
