HC Deb 06 May 1968 vol 764 c23W
Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what review he is undertaking in relation to the educational needs of areas with a high percentage of immigrants in their population.

Mr. Edward Short

A great deal of attention is being paid to the educational needs of these areas and discussions have recently taken place between officials of the Department and of local education authorities at a series of regional conferences. A number of authorities have already received additions to their teacher quota or extra minor works allocations.

I hope that local authorities will make known to me their requirements in respect of additional buildings or extra teacher quota and I will give all possible help.

My right hon. Friend the Minister of State and I are about to visit a number of areas where there are special problems in order to discuss their difficulties at first hand.
