§ Mr. Onslowasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what progress he has made during the past year with negotiations for the implementation of the Anglo-Czech Money and Property Agreement.
§ Mr. Goronwy RobertsI regret that I cannot report any progress on the Agreement or on the settlement of claims which arose subsequently. At the insistence of the Czechoslovak Government, the opening of substantive negotiations depends on the release to Czechoslovakia of its share of gold held by the Tripartite Commission for the Restitution of Monetary Gold, of which the Governments of the United States, the United Kingdom and34W France are the members. In 1964 we reached a procedural agreement for the negotiation of claims with Czechoslovakia on this condition since it appeared that the release would shortly be possible. I regret that although the French and British have agreed to the release, the United States Government has not yet found it possible to authorise the release.
