§ 53. Mr. Ronald Bellasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science by what authority members of the public were imprisoned inside the Victoria and Albert Museum recently; what steps he has taken to prevent a recurrence of such action; and what compensation he is paying to those who were wrongfully detained.
§ Miss Jennie LeeThe doors were shut pending the arrival of the police, in an attempt to prevent the removal of stolen property. I regret any inconvenience caused to visitors to the Museum, who I understand, generally co-operated very readily in the action taken by the police and the Museum authorities. I can give no undertaking that similar action may not be necessary on a future occasion. No one has asked me for compensation.
