§ Mr. Gordon WalkerThe position remains that we cannot contemplate the establishment of any new unversities in the years immediately ahead.
Three of the 30 polytechnics should be in the North-East—at Middlesbrough, Newcastle and Sunderland. The polytechnics schemes submitted by these three authorities are still being considered, but the decisions are likely to be announced very shortly.
