§ 49. Mr. Liptonasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will seek to amend the Merchandise Marks Act to make it an offence to sell popular records not in fact made by the persons purporting to have recorded them.
§ 95. Mr. Brooksasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will introduce legislation to ensure that those who manufacture and distribute "pop" records which claim to reproduce the music and other noises produced by named groups, shall be guilty of an offence if the recording was made by performers not belonging to that group.
§ Mrs. Gwyneth DunwoodyIf these practices amount to obtaining money by false pretences, there is already an offence. I am not satisfied that further legislation would be either practicable or desirable.
§ 94. Mr. Brooksasked the President of the Board of Trade, whether he will introduce legislation to ensure that all gramophone "pop" records shall have printed upon them the individual names of the performers responsible for the recording.
§ Mrs. Gwyneth DunwoodyNo. I do not think it would be practicable to impose such a requirement.
