HC Deb 13 March 1968 vol 760 c303W
99. Mr. Chapman

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will give his estimate of the rise in British export prices in the last 10 years compared with those of France and Germany.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

Limitations of the available data prevent reliable comparisons of different countries' export prices. I would refer my hon. Friend to the Article "International Comparisons of Costs and Prices" in the May, 1967, issue ofEconomic Trends. The unit value index of United Kingdom exports increased by about 14 per cent. between 1957 and 1967; the index numbers for exports from France and the German Federal Republic increased by about 2 per cent. and 6 per cent. respectively in terms of United States dollars. These comparisons are affected by different patterns of trade and different methods of constructing the index numbers.
