§ 52. Mr. Biggs-Davisonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what interdepartmental study has been made of proposals for the combining and computerising of Income Tax payments and allowances and National Insurance contributions and benefits contained in the pamphlet, The New Social Contracts, by Sir Brandon Rhys-Williams, a copy of which has been sent to him; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. DiamondThe Government are constantly seeking ways of improving the machinery for the collection of taxes and contributions and for the payment of social security benefits. The extent to which it proves possible and desirable, over time, to combine the machinery for receipts and payments will depend on the social and economic priorities of the Government at the time as well as on technical progress in the development of administrative machinery.
