Mr. MacArthur

asked the Secretary of Scotland State for Scotland how many children are attending local authority secondary schools in Scotland this year; and what is his latest estimate of the number in 1973.

At January 1967, 275,400. The estimated number at January 1968 is 275,600 and at January 1973 is 327,300.

Notes. (a) All figures are to the nearest hundred.

(b) The figure for 1973 takes account of the initial effect of the raising of the statutory leaving age, the full effect of which will be reflected for the first time in the figure for 1974 (359,900).
