HC Deb 04 March 1968 vol 760 c23W
Mr. Wellbeloved

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what study he has made of the provision of a movable flood barrier in the River Thames that will protect those parts of the London Borough of Bexley that border on the river; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Greenwood

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which I gave to a Question by the hon. Member for Twickenham (Mr. Gresham Cooke) on 20th February. Further consideration of the Long Reach site mentioned in that reply is not ruled out; and the Greater London Council will consider to what extent it may be necessary to raise the existing riparian defences downstream of any barrier or barrage.—[Vol. 759, c.59.]
