§ Mr. William Priceasked the Minister of Health what percentage of nurses leaves the hospital service before their training is completed; and for what main reason.
§ Mr. K. RobinsonThe proportion of those who withdraw from training in any one year to those who start training in that year is nearly 40 per cent. There is no evidence to indicate a single main reason, but a study by the General Nursing Council showed that over a third of student nurses leaving gave "personal reasons" as the cause of their doing so.
I have recently asked hospital authorities to make a special study of the problem of withdrawals from training.
