HC Deb 04 March 1968 vol 760 cc19-20W
97. Mr. Elystan Morgan

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the average cost of milk production per gallon in Wales in 1967; and how this figure compares with the corresponding figure for milk production in England.

Mr. Hoy

My latest information comes from a survey carried out by university departments of agricultural economics in England and Wales for the year ended 31st March, 1966. In Wales, where the average herd size was 17.5 cows, costs were just under 3s. per gallon, or about 3½d. per gallon more than in England, where the average herd size was 32 cows.
