asked the Lord President of the Council what steps he intends to take to ensure that all select and specialist committees of the House are adequately staffed.

I am very well aware of the need for our committees to be adequately staffed, and will continue to do all I can to ensure this. My hon. Friend will appreciate the need for economy in staffing arrangements in the public service at the present time.
