HC Deb 04 March 1968 vol 760 c4W
56. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister of Social Security whether she is aware that British workers receive much less in social security, pension and sickness benefits than workers in the Common Market countries; and if, as a means of facilitating Great Britain's entry into the Common Market she will take steps to increase social security benefits to British workers to the level enjoyed by workers in the Common Market countries.

Mr. Loughlin

If the level of our social security benefits has any bearing on our entry into the European Economic Community, we can discuss this during negotiations with the Six.
