HC Deb 26 June 1968 vol 767 c84W
Mr. Wolrige-Gordon

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland, how many people are now working in agriculture in Scotland; and how this compares with 10 years ago.

Mr. Ross

The number of farm workers (excluding occupiers) is as follows:

1967 1957
Regular full time 44,284 71,800
Regular part-time 5,415 7,437
Casual and seasonal 4,607 10,273

In addition, it is estimated that there were about 50,000 working occupiers in 1967 and about 56,000 in 1957. More than half of these occupiers in each year were on part-time holdings.
