HC Deb 24 June 1968 vol 767 c33W
44. Mr. Edward M. Taylor

asked the President of the Board of Trade how much money was spent in 1967 on the promotion of tourism by official bodies in Scotland, England, and Wales respectively.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

Information in the form sought by the hon. Member could not be indentified without a disproportionate expenditure of time. The British Travel Association's expenditure in 1967–68 for the benefit of tourism to and within the United Kingdom, including payments to the Scottish Tourist Board, Wales Tourist Board and other organisations, amounted to £ 3,600,000.

Mr. Edward M. Taylor

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will convene a conference of the various bodies concerned with tourist development in Great Britain to consider the more effective co-ordination of their activities.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

I am not convinced that this is the best way to proceed at the present time. Improved co-ordination is one of the matters being considered in the Government's current review of tourism.
