Mr. Younger

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many members of the Armed Forces are at present issued with firearms, but are not paid by Her Majesty's Government.

Mr. Reynolds

The members of the Armed Forces who are not paid by Her Majesty's Government but may be issued with firearms are with certain minor exceptions the 12,977 members of T. & A.V.R.III.

The number actually issued with firearms is not readily available.
