HC Deb 21 June 1968 vol 766 cc199-200W
Mr. Maxwell-Hyslop

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total local authority debt in the United Kingdom at 31st December, 1964, and at 31st December, 1967, or the last available date, respectively.

Mr. Harold Lever

The total outstanding capital debt of local authorities in the United Kingdom, as at the end of their financial year 1964–65 amounted to £9,916 million.

A loan debt survey, as at the end of the 1967–68 financial year, is now proceeding; the result should be known towards the end of this year but it is thought that the comparable figure will be about £13,100 million.
