§ 66. Mr. Goodhewasked the Minister of Transport, what modifications have been made to diesel cars on British Railways as a result of the recommendations made by the inspecting officer of the inquiry into the fire which occurred in a diesel car near Radlett in February, 1966.
§ Mr. MarshThe British Railways Board, whose responsibility it is to carry out safety precautions, have decided as a result of these recommendations to make 18 different modifications to reduce fire risk on various types of diesel multiple-unit vehicles.
They report progress on this regularly to the Chief Inspecting Officer of Railways. On 1st January, 1968, 2,000 out of 3,992 individual modifications have been completed.
The position will be further reviewed in the report on the fire in a diesel multiple-unit at Sandridge on 12th June.
