§ Mrs. Shirley WilliamsThe Medical Research Council expect to spend approximately £678,000 on research into mental disorder and £362,000 on related psyohological studies in 1968–69. Together these sums represent 8.3 per cent. of the Council's total estimated recurrent expenditure for the period. In addition, a wide programme of basic biological research being carried out under the Council's auspices may help to shed light on some of the problems in the field of mental illness.
