Their main duties include functions of agricultural pests and weed control delegated to them by the Secretary of State and consideration of the agricultural implications of proposals put forward by local planning authorities. They have some residual functions in relation to schemes approved under Hill Farming and Livestock Rearing Acts, and have recently been given the task of reviewing certain decisions under the Farm Structure Schemes made under the Agriculture Act, 1967.
