§ Mr. Roy Hughesasked the Minister of Transport if he will seek to amend the Road Traffic Act with a view to permitting driving licences to be issued to epileptics provided they had not suffered from fits for a five-year period before the application for such a licence was made.
§ Mr. SwinglerAs my right hon. Friend said in reply to the Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Willesden, West (Mr. Pavitt) on 14th June, on the advice of a panel of eminent consultants we are proposing to amend the existing law so as to enable driving licences to be granted, in suitable cases, to persons with epilepsy who are certified by a doctor to have been free of any attack for at least three years, with or without treatment, or to have attacks only during their sleep at night.
We hope to introduce the necessary legislative changes early next Session.— [Vol. 766, c.80.]
