§ Dr. John Dunwoodyasked the Minister of Health what proposals he has for reviewing the hospital medical staffing structure in the light of representations made to him by the medical profession.
§ Mr. K. RobinsonA solution of the present disagreement about the permanent grades of hospital medical staff is dependent upon the definition of responsibilities and function of the consultant grade. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and I are therefore inviting a working group drawn from the consultant and junior grades to meet under the chairmanship of my Chief Medical Officer, with the Chief Medical Officer, 189W Scottish Home and Health Department, to consider this question in the light of the report of the Royal Commission on Medical Education and any other relevant information and to report to us. We shall ask for a report by the end of the year and we shall discuss this with the profession. The membership of the working group will be made known as soon as possible.
