HC Deb 23 July 1968 vol 769 c56W
59. Mr. Scott-Hopkins

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he will reconsider the present regulations whereby as much as 33 per cent. is deducted from a pension when a woman teacher of the blind retires from local government service five years before the normal age of 65 years.

Mr. Greenwood

No. This is a contributory pension scheme with contributions and benefits related to normal retirement at 65. If a person not entitled to full pension until 65 voluntarily retires earlier, fewer contributions will have been paid and the pension is likely to be drawn for a longer period.

The deduction from full pension rate is derived directly from these facts.
