HC Deb 23 July 1968 vol 769 cc54-5W
50. Mr. Hilton

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will announce the composition, and terms of reference, of his proposed committee to review the operation of the Greater London rate equalisation scheme.

Mr. Greenwood

A working party of officials from the London Boroughs Association, the City of London Corporation, the Greater London Council and the Department has already begun a study of the technical aspects of the Greater London rate equalisation scheme. Professor Ilersic, the author of the present scheme, has accepted my invitation to join this working party.

I hope they will be able to report their findings in the autumn to a group of members, representing the same bodies, which is to be formed under the chairmanship of my hon. Friend the Joint Parliamentary Secretary. It will be for that body to make recommendations to me for any changes they consider desirable.
