Nursery Assistants (Pay)

Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will circulate in the OFFICIAL REPORT the rates of pay for trained nursery assistants possessing the National Nursing Examination Board Certificate; and if he will give details of his plans for improving these rates.

The present rates of pay of Nursery Assistants Class 1 in nursery schools and classes are as follows:

Age 20 or over—

£447x£21 (3)x£20(l)x£21 (4)—£614.

Age 19 years—£380.

Age 18 years—£343.

The rates of pay are determined by the Nurses and Midwives Whitley Council which is at present considering the outstanding recommendations in National Board for Prices and Incomes Report No. 60.
