HC Deb 17 July 1968 vol 768 c221W
61. Sir Clive Bossom

asked the Minister of Transport what action he will take, following a fatal road accident in Hampshire which occurred because a driver failed to see a traffic sign obscured by weeds and grass, to ensure that financial restrictions will not prevent highway authorities making adequate arrangements for necessary maintenance in the interests of road safety.

Mr. Bob Brown

I very much regret this accident but there is no evidence of any need for general advice to highway authorities on the safety aspect of cuts in highway expenditure.

Advice about aspects of maintenance is issued from time to time and has covered the mowing of verges (March, 1965) and the maintenance of traffic signs (April, 1968).
