§ Mr. Harold LeverTaking the internal purchasing power of the£ sterling as 20s. in January, 1961, its value in October, 1964 is estimated at 18s. Taking the purchasing power as 20s. in October, 1964, its value in May, 1968, the latest date for which information is available, is estimated at 17s. 5d. These estimates are based on changes in the consumer price index for calendar years adjusted by movements in the retail price index for the months at the beginning and end of each period.
