HC Deb 15 July 1968 vol 768 c162W
Mr. Whitaker

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what is the latest information he has about the recent imprisonment of British subjects by the Haitian régime.

Mr. Foley

Mr. D. J. Knox, Director of Information in the service of the Government of the Bahama Islands, was arrested while on a private visit to Haiti. The case against him is still under investigation. He has been visited by the First Secretary from the British High Commission in Kingston, who reported him to be composed and in reasonable physical health. We are pressing for release or an early trial and for further staff visits.

We know of two other British subjects under detention in Haiti. They are citizens of Jamaica and their own Government is responsible for their protection.
