- 1. The date of the A702 traffic census on which is based the last sentence of the answer at col. 802 of the OFFICIAL REPORT for May 22;
- 2. If this date is prior to the opening of the Forth and/or Tay Road Bridges, whether they will carry out a new census to ascertain the present level of traffic on this road;
- 3. Whether their attention has been drawn to the recent spate of accidents at Culter Village on the A702 apparently due to the heavy and fast northbound traffic upon an inadequate though well-maintained road; and whether early steps can be
1212 taken to adjust the road signs to the present level of traffic, if it is not re-routed.
§ THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR SCOTLAND (LORD HUGHES)The last formal traffic census on A702 was taken in August, 1963, but later general information is available about traffic over Wandel Bridge. The next formal census of traffic on the road is expected to be taken in about a year's time. Lanarkshire County Council, who are responsible for this road, have not drawn attention to accidents on the A702 at Culter village, but I understand that they are at present urgently investigating the traffic problems there.
House adjourned at ten minutes before ten o'clock.
