106. Earl of Dalkeithasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what evidence he has received of the accumulation of small roundwood timber as a result of the January hurricane; and the transport cost difficulty of moving it to suitable markets.
§ Mr. RossThe total quantity of small roundwood blown down in the storm is estimated to be about 640,000 tons. On the question of transport I would refer the noble Lord to the Written Answer I gave my hon. Friend the Member for West Stirlingshire (Mr. W. Baxter) on 2nd July.—[Vol. 767, c.219.]
