§ LORD MANCROFTasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether it is permissible for pilots of the nationalised airlines to engage in commercial activities unconnected with their operational duties; and if so how many pilots are thus engaged.
§ LORD BESWICKI understand that in both Air Corporations pilots may, like other staff, be permitted to engage in outside commercial activities. In the case of pilots the Corporations impose a condition that they should always be available for duty when required, and that there must be no conflict between their outside interests and their responsibilities as pilots. This is particularly636WA important from the point of view of medical fitness.
Figures are not readily available of the number of pilots in either Corporation who engage in outside commercial activities.
§ LORD MANCROFTasked Her Majesty's Government:
How many pilots of the nationalised airlines who are no longer eligible for flying duties are employed on administrative or other non-operational activities.
§ LORD BESWICKI understand that 10 former pilots of B.E.A. and 52 of B.O.A.C., now no longer eligible for flying duties, are employed on administrative or other non-operational duties.
