HC Deb 04 July 1968 vol 767 cc257-8W
47. Mr. Gurden

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on what authority a South African immigrant without a valid passport or any permit for entry is allowed into Great Britain; and how many cases of this kind are on record.

Mr. Ennals

I understand the hon. Member has in mind the case of Mr. Suliman Gani, a medical student who came here last year with a South African passport. Although Mr. Gani's passport was not endorsed by the issuing authorities as valid for travel to this country, the arrangements for his studies and maintenance here were satisfactory, and admission for this purpose was authorised under the Aliens Order. No special authority was required.

I regret that the information sought in the second part of the Question is not readily available.
