§ 42. Mrs. Joyce Butlerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement in regard to the death of Mr. Michael Conneely at Wood Green Police Station on 11th June, 1968.
§ Mr. CallaghanMr. Conneely was arrested in the street on the evening of 10th June for being drunk and incapable of taking care of himself. I regret to say that he died in the police station on the following morning. A coroner's inquest was opened and adjourned until today. I shall study the findings carefully in consultation with the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis and shall if necessary make a further statement.
