asked the Minister of Health what increases in the medical, dental and nursing professions there have been in Welsh hospitals as a whole between 1963 and the latest date for which figures are available.

The number of doctors and dentists in Welsh hospitals increased by 222 (of 191 whole time equivalents) between 1963 and 1967, a 20 per cent. increase compared with an increase of 13 per cent. in England and Wales together.

In the same period the number of nurses and midwives in Welsh hospitals increased by 2,434 (or 1,989 whole time equivalents), an 18 per cent. increase, compared with 17 per cent. in England and Wales together.
