§ Mr. Edwin Wainwrightasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the amount of tax to be obtained, in each group, in a full financial year on the basis that a tax on personal wealth is introduced at rates of½per cent. on all personal wealth from £20,000 to £50,000, 1 per cent. from £50,000 to £100,000, 2 per cent. from £100,000 to £200,000, 3 per cent. from £200,000 to £300,000, and 4 per cent. on over £300,000, respectively..
§ Mr. Harold LeverAssuming that the different rates would apply to successive slices of total wealth the total yield for a full year is estimated at about £200 million. The amounts derived from persons with total wealth within the ranges given would be approximately as follows: £20 million, £30 million, £40 million, £20 million and £90 million respectively.
